Membership in a local church is an important component of the Christian faith. We want to welcome you to our family! While you do not need to become an official member in order to attend or serve at First E, we believe commitment to one church family is vital to the health of both the individuals and the church as a whole. If you would like to learn more about being an official member of our church family, please keep reading or talk to any pastor about what that means.
At First E, we Love God, Love People, and Serve the World. Our mission is to grow passionate followers of Christ. We are also a sending church with a heart for children. All of these things are in response to the Great Commission: "...Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit...." Discipleship requires commitment, and membership in a local church is simply that.
Commiting to the First E Family means choosing to give your time, energy, and resources primarily to the work being done here. This should not be because you think we have the best personalities or programs, but simply because you feel God calling you to work alongside us in the mission and vision we have been given (see 1 Corinthians 3:4-9). It is God's work and it is He who makes it grow. We believe the most effective workers are those who commit to one family and can be counted on to share in this work.
Members of First E are expected to participate in ministries we do as a church when possible. Membership is not about belonging to a club or "getting fed," but about a committed relationship with this local church. Healthy relationships require that no one only gives or only receives.
Members of First E are expected to tithe (give one tenth of your income) at First E. This is not a rule or something we monitor or enforce, but it is a general expectation. First and foremost we look to 2 Corinthians 9:7: "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." The expectation of 10% comes from the Old Testament model, but we understand that God may be calling us to give more or less than that based on our means and circumstances.
Finally, members of First E are prepared to submit to the authority of our pastoral leadership (Hebrews 13:17). This does not mean blind obedience, just recognition of that person's calling and placement by God into that leadership position over the local body of Christ.
Once a quarter there is a "fifth" Sunday and we celebrate together with a special "One Service." On those Sundays instead of our normal 8:30 and 11:00 services, we combine together for a celebration in the Family Life Center Gym for "One Service" at 10:00 a.m. We worship God together, celebrate baptism and have a time for new members to introduce themselves and be welcomed into the family. We hope you answer if God calls you to be among them!
